The Easiest Crib-to-Bed Transition?
Moving out of the crib is a big milestone. For little ones, it means more freedom. For parents, it can mean a lot of wondering: Are they ready? Will they stay in bed? What if they roll out? Do we really need a giant toddler bed taking over the room?
Sometimes the simplest transition is the best one.
A low Montessori-style floor bed gives kids the independence to get in and out on their own, while keeping the sleep surface close to the ground. It can make the shift from crib to “big kid bed” feel a little less dramatic for everyone.
That was the idea behind our Orelle Foam Arch Bed: soft, low to the floor, easy to set up, and designed to feel beautiful enough to belong in the room.
Why parents love a floor bed
A floor bed removes one of the biggest changes that comes with moving out of the crib: height.
Instead of climbing into a taller bed or needing help getting in and out, little ones can move independently. That can make bedtime, naps, and early mornings feel a little more manageable.
And because the bed sits low, the room can feel more open and less crowded, especially in smaller bedrooms.
Independence, without making bedtime complicated
One of the ideas behind Montessori-inspired spaces is creating an environment children can navigate on their own.
A low bed does exactly that.
They can climb in when they’re tired, reach their favorite stuffed animal, grab a book, and get comfortable without needing an adult to lift them into bed.
It’s a small design choice that can give them a surprising amount of confidence.
